What is DMT
DMT is a psychoactive drug, better known chemically as, alkaloid N,N-dimethyltryptamine.
This chemical compund has been known and has been used for decades. One of the earliest know uses of this drug has been used as ayahuasca in Southern Countries. Lately, especially with the rise of celebrities and a push for back into psychedelics as medicine, it has attracted growing attention from the scientific community. It is also gaining traction as a recreational drug for it's psychedelic effects as well as it use for people looking to self medicate as it has been frequent reported to help with depression and addiciton.
Ok, but how did people get to learn about DMT in the first place? Great questions but I will start by answering like this, DMT is commonly found in plants and specifically in Mimosa hostilis which it is extracted from for most users. popularly known as jurema preta is a plant that is native to Brazil.
In this study, we confirmed if five different organic solvents (n-hexane, ethyl acetate, n-butanol, dichloromethane, and chloroform) would extract non-purified DMT from M. hostilis and compared them in terms of DMT concentration found in the five organic solvents cited before.
